Amtor

AMTOR was the first of the TOR modes and is derived from SITOR, used to send information to ships at sea. The sending station sends a few specially coded characters and the other side checks for errors and sends back an OK or nothing .. in which case the sender repeats automatically .. The effect of your first contact will be considerable concern for your rig as it jumps rapidly back and forth from send and receive. The station calls CQ in FEC, as do all? of the advanced digital modes .. the Baud rate is 100 but the actual data rate depends on setup and propagation of the rigs. AMTOR is fairly rare today as PACTOR has taken over much of that type of operating. We call this the CHIRPER mode to help remember it ..
